Rifts of Arcaria
Rifts are portals, believed to be tears in the fabric of reality that allow the manifestation of the will of The Foe to enter Arcaria. They have been known to open throughout the land, although they tend to be most frequently located in specific geographical regions.
All manner of things come through the rifts. Sometimes a single creature comes through a rift, while other times entire armies come marching out. Structures, both natural and unnatural are deposited upon the earth by rifts, ranging in size from statues to entire mountains. Often, when a rift opens, whatever is in the area of the rift disappears, exchanged with whatever comes through. And not all things that come through a rift remain in Arcaria; some become permanent fixtures, while others remain only for a few hours or days before fading back to wherever they came from. Anything that disappears into a rift, however, never returns.
Anything that comes into the world through a rift is highly regulated under the Cerulean Law. Objects are collected and cleansed under the auspices of the Archons' clergy. Structures, if deemed to be non-threatening, are cleansed in the location they stand by a team of Exarchs, or banished if they are deemed to pose a danger to the world. Creatures that come through the rifts are usually killed outright, although it is not uncommon for the creature to be captured and enslaved. This practice of enslavement is particular prevalent in the Dominance of Resolve.
